Important Notification Regarding Customer-Owned Water Service Line Materials

Waupun Utilities is sending notifications to customers as part of our ongoing commitment to ensure safe drinking water and to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Federal Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). The purpose of these letters is to inform customers about the materials used in their water service lines and to provide resources to help reduce exposure to lead if applicable.

Why Are We Sending These Letters?

As part of a state-wide initiative, we are required to submit an inventory of customer-owned water service lines to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Our goal is to identify if your service line contains lead, galvanized material, or if the material status is unknown.

Types of Customer Letters

There are three types of letters that will be sent based on your service line's materials:

  • Notice of Confirmed Galvanized Service Line
  • Notice of Confirmed Lead Service Line
  • Notice of Unknown Service Line Material

Each letter is tailored to your specific situation based on our records.

What’s Included in Your Letter

Your letter will include important information on how to reduce exposure to lead if your service line is made of lead or galvanized material. It will also direct you to our Lead Awareness page for further resources.

No Concerns with Waupun Utilities' Service Lines

It’s important to note that there are no concerns with Waupun Utilities’ service lines or the water we supply. Any lead or galvanized materials would be present on the customer-owned side of the system. If applicable, you can choose to reduce exposure or replace your service lines at your own expense.
