MIDDLETON, WIS., — Waupun Utilities, the community’s locally owned, not-for-profit municipal electric utility, participated in the WPPI Energy Annual Meeting on Sept. 15, 2022, in Middleton, Wis. The utility is a member-owner of WPPI Energy, a not-for-profit wholesale energy provider and joint action agency.
Jen Benson, customer service supervisor at Waupun Utilities, received the WPPI Energy Shining Star Award. The award recognizes employees who are showing growth and leadership with proven dedication to strategic initiatives within a utility.
“Jen demonstrates a strong work ethic every day and exhibits a genuine passion and thoughtfulness for those around her. Whether it is taking a little extra time to listen and carefully inform a customer or training two brand new customer service staff at the same time during busy periods, she does so with elegance, care, and careful consideration,” shared Jeff Stanek, finance director for Waupun Utilities. “Day in, day out, Jen is a beacon of knowledge, experience, joy and happiness.”
Stanek and Steve Brooks, general manager of Waupun Utilities, were also honored at the annual meeting, receiving recognition for completing the Joint Action Leadership Certification program. The multi-year curriculum helps utility leaders deepen their knowledge of the joint action model, enhances unity among WPPI Energy members, and promotes member engagement.
Additionally, Brooks was elected to the Executive Committee for the WPPI Energy Board of Directors. The Executive Committee is made up of 11 directors and oversees the joint action agency’s operations and programs.
One of the 51 members that make up WPPI Energy, Waupun Utilities has been providing reliable, responsible power to Waupun for 123 years.
