The Waupun Utilities water department is scheduled to begin unidirectional water main flushing in targeted areas mid-July. Flushing will take place from Monday to Friday 7:00am to 2:30pm.
The UDF involves strategically closing valves and opening hydrants to direct water at high speeds through targeted segments of water main. This approach creates a scouring effect in the water pipe, uses less water, and is more effective in removing naturally occurring sediment than conventional flushing.
While flushing is underway, customers may notice large amounts of water in the streets, a temporary drop in water pressure, or water that is discolored or cloudy. The discoloration of water is caused by the presence of naturally occurring sediment and does not create a health concern. If you notice sediment in the water from house faucets during the week of flushing, we recommend that you turn off the inside faucet, then allow water to run from an outside hose bib or the cold water tap of the bathtub until the water runs clear.
Waupun Utilities apologizes for any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain our water supply system for domestic consumption and fire protection.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
