Waupun, WI – June 11, 2025 — Waupun Utilities has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2024. The award comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), which represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities across the country.
The recognition is based on reliability data tracked through APPA’s eReliability Tracker service, which helps utilities measure power outage and restoration performance. Each year, APPA compares this data to national benchmarks from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
“Year after year, data consistently demonstrate public power utilities provide highly reliable service,” said Paul Zummo, APPA Director of Research and Development. “The utilities recognized here are truly elite when it comes to keeping the lights on. Their communities should be proud of the hard work and dedication of their local power providers.”
Waupun Utilities ranked in the top 25% of electric utilities nationwide based on its System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) performance—including and excluding IEEE major events.
Nationwide, public power utilities consistently outperform other types of utilities, with customers experiencing significantly fewer and shorter power outages on average.
“We are proud to receive this recognition,” said Steve Brooks, General Manager at Waupun Utilities. “It’s a testament to our team's dedication and ongoing investments in infrastructure and service reliability for the Waupun community.”
In 2024, Waupun Utilities achieved a SAIDI of just 14.08 minutes, far below the national average of 149 minutes per year—highlighting our commitment to rapid outage response and system resiliency, and reliable service for our community.
