Waupun Utilities is one of just 2,000 not-for-profit, locally owned utilities nationwide. To better serve Waupun, the utility is a member of the joint action agency WPPI Energy. WPPI Energy was established 40 years ago to help members use their strength in numbers to access affordable and reliable power supply, forward-thinking services, and effective energy policy advocacy.
“WPPI Energy is governed by the utilities it serves. Our utility has both a director and an alternate on the WPPI Board of Directors, so we have a voice in the issues that matter,” said Steve Brooks, General Manager. “Together, the 51 members jointly invest in generation, transmission, and advanced technologies that help lower costs for both the utility and our customers.”
At the organization’s annual meeting, held virtually on Sept. 17, members discussed the evolving utility industry and how WPPI Energy members can continue working together to best serve the needs of their customers and communities for the long term. Also discussed was the current health emergency, and how utilities can help their communities through these difficult times. For example, Waupun Utilities is using Community Recharge funds provided by WPPI Energy to support our area youth through REACH, contribute to the local food pantry, support local nonprofits, and boost the local economy by making purchases in the community to give back to our community through door prize giveaways.
WPPI Energy President & CEO Mike Peters stated that the past forty years of success experienced by WPPI Energy is due to the people who dedicate their time and energy to the joint action agency, and thanked all of those who work for their local utilities. Peters said, “Because of you, your communities are stronger. The money your utility brings in stays in the community, strengthening your local economy. You have a voice in where your power comes from, and you are best positioned to serve your customers — because they’re your friends, neighbors, and local businesses. Thank you for all you do.”
Waupun Utilities received an award and recognition for celebrating a significant milestone anniversary, with 125 years of service to local customers in 2019.
