Discover the Future of Clean Water
Waupun Utilities is proud to unveil the Advanced Biological Nutrient Removal (ABNR) upgrade at our Wastewater Treatment Facility. This state-of-the-art enhancement was driven by the need to meet stricter phosphorus discharge limits set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
With ABNR, we’re reducing nutrient pollution, advancing environmental stewardship, and helping to shape the future of nutrient removal in Wisconsin and beyond.
Project Background
The ABNR project broke ground in May 2021, launching a multi-year transformation of our wastewater treatment operations. By 2024, major construction was completed. Since then, our operations team has focused on fine-tuning system performance — particularly the algae-based nutrient removal process at the heart of ABNR technology.
This Open House not only highlights the innovative system — it also celebrates the teamwork, planning, dedication, and innovation behind this milestone achievement.
